The 7 Best and Worst Foods for Your Health and Longevity

Post 49 CollageThere are many foods that have been shown to have a healing effect on the body, but there are some foods in particular that stand out because they contain the most powerful phytonutrients and protective antioxidants which strongly inhibit the formation of disease. If you consume them regularly, these high nutrient foods can and will contribute to your health and longevity. And the effect is cumulative over time, so you want to be consistent, because the food you eats influences everything from the amount of energy you will have (or not!), your emotional health, your overall health, and yes, your longevity. Here are the top seven that you want to be sure to get plenty of:

  • Black raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Flax Seeds
  • Green Leafy Vegetables
  • Tomatoes
  • Broccoli sprouts

You’ll notice that these powerhouse foods are primarily fruits and vegetables. And it’s no wonder because nothing beats plants foods for powering the body. I always say, stay plantstrong and you can’t go wrong!

There are, of course, other foods with high levels of antioxidants and that are also very protective against disease which include walnuts, sunflower seeds, pomegranates, beets, cabbage, peppers, and parsley. Cruciferous vegetables, in particular, like kale and collard greens are very protective against degenerative diseases like cancer.

The produce department in your local grocery store is your best friend. Think of produce as some of the most important health care your money can buy!

Now, food also has the potential to destroy your health entirely. The following list of seven foods are the ones you want to avoid at all costs. There are so many that could be on this list, but if I had to pick the top seven that are the ultimate health destroyers, these take the prize:

  • Butter
  • Cheese
  • Potato Chips and French Fries
  • Doughnuts
  • Salt
  • Sausage, hot dogs
  • Pickled, smoked or barbequed meat

Most of these are foods are high in saturated fat and trans fat which have been consistently shown to be associated with high cancer rates. Ugh! Did you know that cheese and butter tend to contain over ten times as much saturated fat as fish and even the white meat of chicken and turkey? Yikes!

And would you believe that salt has been shown to be linked to stomach cancer and stroke? This is even true in populations whose diets tend to be low in saturated fat! CLICK HERE to read my post about salt.

Yes, it gets worse. You know that donut you scarfed down on the way to work this morning or the fries you had for lunch yesterday? Well, they were most likely cooked in heated and overcooked oils (usually containing trans fat)) and when combined with the powerful cancer promoting properties of carbohydrates cooked at high heat, you have created the perfect storm for cancer. Oh, and it’s not so great for your heart either! Is it any wonder why the incidences of cancer and heart disease continue to rise in the western world?

Don’t let this be you! It was me! You see, back in 2013, I was diagnosed with cancer. I vowed to get well and I did! CLICK HERE to read how I did it in my book, The Wellness Mindset: 5 Keys to Building Super Health.

The best foods to focus on are healthy fresh fruits and vegetables. If you will make these powerhouse, antioxidant foods the biggest portion of your diet, you will go a long way in protecting yourself against ill health. To your good health!
