Who doesn’t want to have beautiful skin? Everywhere you look there are products claiming to be the fountain of youth. But, do you really need that expensive cream with the rare seaweed from Tasmania that promises to take 20 years off or is there an easier, health promoting, and more pocketbook-friendly way? You bet there is! Ready for the secret? Here it is: Eat plenty of phytonutrient rich foods. There are several classes of these phytonutrients, things like carotenoids, polyphenols, and lignans. Without getting into the science, what you need to know is that these miracle workers help prevent or repair DNA damage to your skin caused by the sun, helps improve your skin’s elasticity, helps you have less wrinkles, and adds more hydration in your skin. Now that’s what I call the fountain of youth! And best of all, foods containing these phytonutrients are health promoting to your body. The best ones to concentrate on for gorgeous skin are leafy greens, yellow and orange vegetables, tomatoes, and pink fruits (like grapefruit and watermelon). Other powerhouses are berries, flax, chia seeds (CLICK HERE to read how amazing these are), and green tea. Raw cacao (chocolate, yea!) is even of benefit since it also contains phytonutrients. Try a light sprinkle of raw cacao nibs in a green smoothie or on some steel-cut oatmeal. Yum! The point is to concentrate on eating the colorful fruits and vegetables. Always think green, pink, orange, purple, and yellow when choosing your meals and you can’t go wrong.
