If much about what you read and hear in the media today about aging is true, it is a curse to be avoided. The prevailing wisdom seems to be to fight it at all costs with as much Botox and other age-defying strategies you can employ. But is it really a curse or is an opportunity to create the life you want because you have been given the gift of years? And if you were to embrace aging rather than fighting it every step of the way, could there be an even more amazing life ahead of you? Getting older doesn’t have to mean that it’s time for walker and a cane. There are many vibrant older people out there. Two great examples are Debra Rapoport and Tziporah Salamon, stars of the movie, Advanced Style. If you have Netflix, check it out. These two ladies have truly embraced getting older and they believe that using your individual style and creativity is healing to your body and mind. I think that it is incredible that Debra creates things of great beauty using things you would normally not think of like making hats from paper towels. And let me tell you, those are some show stopping hats! Tziporah creates art in her every day dressing. She puts together outfits that are truly beautiful and express perfectly who she is. Consider that when you have decades to look back upon, you have more time to learn from your experiences and can even use that knowledge to help others with the benefit of your wisdom. Who knows, you may be the catalyst that turns someone’s life around! You never know. When you have been given the gift of time, I believe that you become more comfortable in your own skin and more accepting of who you are. I find that this has been true for me and has had a positive effect on my health. I feel lighter, freer and much more positive about the future than ever before. Furthermore, I believe that if you stop fighting the march of time and embrace it, your mind is freer and more open to positive experiences that you might otherwise have missed. And I say, where the mind goes the body follows. CLICK HERE to read about this in my book, The Wellness Mindset: 5 Keys to Building Super Health. What great accomplishments are ahead of you?
Whether you think aging is a good thing or not, consider this: You have been granted time that has been denied to many. It seems that the news is inundated with stories about adults dying in the prime of life or even sadder, young kids on the brink of adulthood. So many lives gone and their songs, many times, left unsung. So, I say let’s embrace getting older and the opportunities it brings. What say you?
